After so many centuries Arthistory has produced thousands as not millions of "artists". There is something suitable for anybody.
I too have my favorites. There is of course a difference between people you admire and those whose ideas your trying to make yourself own (it's no "nicking", but more likely "quoting", or "citing"). Between those moral standards the distuingish isn't always obvious.
My admiration counts for amongst others; Jan van Eyck, Johannes Vermeer, Pyke Koch, Salvador Dali, Don Eddy, Norman Rockwell, Gottfried Helnwein, David Hockney, and Co Westerik (Search for them, they will like that!).

Helnwein sıradan sanatın yanısıra farklı birşeyleri gösteren eserleri ile 21.yy'da da varolan ırk ayrımını ve soykırımı, sanatıyla günümüze yansıtmaya çalışmaktadır. Alman Nazi soykırımından sonra oluşan dejenere neslin, saflığını yitirmiş çocukların resimlerini kimi zaman onların yaralı yüzlerini çizerek kimi zaman da bandajlayarak açığa çıkarır. Portreleriyle de dünya üzerinde önemli bir yere sahiptir. Bir çok ünlünün portresinin yanısıra çığlık atma öğesini kullanan Helnwein'ın kendi portresi bir çok yere kapak olmuştur. Bunlardan en önemlisi de "Scorpions" un albüm kapağıdır.
Geçmişte bir çok tepki almasına rağmen şimdilerde sanatıyla kabul edilmiştir. Avusturya'da sokaklarda kocaman çocuk resimlerinin olduğu sergileri, köprülerde,yollarda asılı Helnwein resimlerini görürseniz hiç şaşırmayın. Çünkü o hayatın içinde size hayatın gerçeğini göstermek için sanatını icra etmektedir. Sıradan ve basit şeylerin yerine gerçek ama çoğu zamanda korkutucu öğeleri gözler önüne sermekten hiç çekinmemiştir.

Disney artist Carl Barks (1901-2000) created one of Walt Disney's most famous characters, Scrooge McDuck. Barks also produced more than 500 comic book stories. His work is ranked among the most widely circulated, best-loved, and most influential of all comic book art.
Although the images he created are known virtually everywhere, Barks was an isolated storyteller, living in the desert of California and preferring to labor without public fanfare during most of his career.

To help promote their controversial film, "Rules of Attraction", writer/director Roger Avary and producer Greg Shapiro contracted artist Gottfried Helnwein to create an image for the poster. Helnwein chose to recreate a scene where a girl commits suicide and Lauren (Shannyn Sossamon) discovers her body. In the studio shot, it almost looks like Sossamon is kissing the dead girl.
Since the suicide is a wrist slitting in the bathtub, the girl is nude and therefore the shot couldn't be used for wide release posters. The one you see displayed in theaters features stuffed animals in compromising positions, but Helnwein's poster did make it onto the soundtrack CD and other outlets. Helnwein himself spoke with Madblast about his work. ...

Il Reverendo del Rock ha annunciato la nascita di un sodalizio artistico con Gottfried Helnwein, artista austriaco dei più controversi, le cui opere e installazioni fanno spesso riferimento a immagini naziste e alla violenza dell’olocausto.
Manson ha rivelato sul suo sito ufficiale l’intenzione di intraprendere “un progetto multimediale basato sulla provocazione e sul caos” insieme a Helnwein. Secondo il cantante, la collaborazione con l’artista austriaco “stupirà positivamente molti e farà discutere i benpensanti”. It's funny how blisteringly incorrect Page Six is in their quest for sensational gossip. They miss the big story when they stoop so low. The image in question isn't a shot from a deleted scene in the movie, and was never before censors, but a photograph taken by the brilliant Austrian artist, Gottfried Helnwein. It's reason enough to buy the CD, and reason entirely that WalMart won't carry the CD. ...

...This unease with, and yet celebration of German-language cutlure continues to inform Helnwein's work, not least in this large piece, "The Silent Glow of the Avant Garde"
Helnwein's painting - both cheekily and totally in homage - appropriates the great paintings, "The Polar Sea" (1824) by the leading German Romantic landscape artist Casper David Friedrich. Helnwein here re-renders the painting in a gloomy, cinematic blue-black duochrome, and hugely magnifies it from its original scale (about 1 metre by 1 metre 30), although the foundered ship still seems dwarfed and pulverised by the splintering ice sheets. It remains a fine example of that particularly Germanic celebration of heroic humanity dashing itself against the majestic cruelty of nature.
Helnwein, in his wry title and borrowing of the image, is suggesting an uncomfortable paradigm behind Friedrich's painting - a perpetual sense of momentous revolution within nature, raw humanity and indeed artistic culture. These ideas pervaded Friedrich's work, as well as that of composer Richard Wagner and philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche - all of whose works were later so mistakenly absorbed into the "superhuman" aesthetic of Nazi ideaology and doctrine... ...
