I went to the legion of honor in san francisco yesterday to look at some artwork and came across the paintings by gottfried helnwein. he is an _amazing_ painter. his technique with oil and acrylics are magical, and even close up to a gigantic painting its hard to tell that it is not a photograph. it surprised me to see how big the paintings actually are. its always a small shock when you see a piece live and its as big as a side of a room and thus far youve only seen it printed in a hardback coffee table book of some sort.
