The Other Mainstream: Selections from the Collection
TEMPE, ARIZONA.- The Arizona State University Art Museum will present The Other Mainstream: Selections from the Collection of Mikki and Stanley Weithorn, January 22 - April 23, 2005. A dynamic selection of works from the collection of Mikki and Stanley Weithorn, "The Other Mainstream" shows their ongoing commitment to social and political issues and artists of color.

Although their collecting focuses on the contemporary, both well-known and emerging artists, selected historic pieces show the breadth of their interest and the roots of socially conscious work in the early 20th century.

Artists in the exhibition: Gottfried Helnwein, Robert Arneson, Belkis Ayon, John Bankston, Willie Birch, Sandow Birk, Enrique Chagoya, Sue Coe, Robert Colescott, Brett Cook-Dizney, E.V. Day, Marita Dingus, Peter Drake, Marcel Dzama, Richard Glazer-Danay, Leon Golub, Kojo Griffin, William Gropper, Jon Haddock, John King, Francisco Osuna, Jacob Lawrence, Lelooska (Don Smith), Kerry James Marshall, Beverly McIver, Vik Muniz, Takashi Murakami, Justin Novak, Tom Otterness, Faith Ringgold, Larry Rivers, Sebatiao Salgado, Sol 'Sax, Joyce Scott, Travis Somerville, Joe Tilson, Kara Walker and Wanxin Zhang.

A lecture associated with the exhibition will be presented by artist Vik Muniz. Tuesday, February 15, 7:30pm, Neeb Hall. A full color catalogue will be available for this exhibition.
