I would like to draw your attention to what could, without exaggeration, be called the biggest “Austrian Cultural Event” in Los Angeles this season. For a stunning new production of Richard Strauss and Hugo von Hoffmansthal’s “Der Rosenkavalier”, directed by Maximilian Schell, designed by Gottfried Helnwein, choreographed by Johann Kresnik and starring Kurt Rydl, the L.A Opera relied heavily on Austrian talent in creating a “Gesamtkunstwerk”.
