Collection of Mikki and Stanley Weithorn
Group show, catalogue This is a selection of dynamic works from the collection of Mikki and Stanley Weithorn, demonstrating their commitment to social and political issues and artists of color. Although their collecting focuses on the contemporary, both well-known and emerging artists, selected historic pieces show the breadth of their interest and the roots of socially conscious work in the early 20th century.

Day, Marita Dingus, Peter Drake, Marcel Dzama, Leon Golub, Kojo Griffin, William Gropper, Jon Haddock, Gottfried Helnwein, John King, Jacob Lawrence, Don Smith “Lelooska”, Francisco Larios Osuna, Kerry James Marshall, Vik Muniz, Beverly McIver, Takashi Murakami, Justin Novak, Tom Otterness, Faith Ringgold, Larry Rivers, Sabastiao Salgado, Sol ‘Sax, Joyce Scott, Travis Somerville, Joe Tilson, Kara Walker and Wahxin Zhang.

Lecture

Vik Muniz will be lecturing in conjunction with the exhibition on February 15, 7:30 p.m. at Neeb Hall.

A 48-page, full-color catalogue is available for this exhibition. The catalogue includes an essay by ASU Art Museum Director Marilyn A. Zeitlin and an interview conducted by ASU Art Museum Senior Curator Heather Lineberry with Mikki and Stanley Weithorn.

THE OTHER MAINSTREAM: Selections from the Collection of Mikki and Stanley Weithorn (January 22 through April 23, 2005) is open at the ASU Art Museum: Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m to 5 p.m.
